Properties of Mayola wipes simplicity of ingredients and the power of nature

Simplicity of ingredients and the power of nature

I am paying increasing attention to what comes into contact with the skin, especially when it comes to the care of infants, the elderly, or people with sensitive, irritation-prone skin. I can clearly see that consumer awareness is growing, along with the need to choose products with simple, transparent, and safe compositions. In this context, Mayola wipes are a return to simplicity.

Wet wipes used to be associated with very long ingredient lists, often filled with names I didn’t understand. That’s how my journey began at Eco&More, a company we created so our children could have access to healthier products (that was in 2011, so quite a while ago—fortunately, much has changed since then). Wipes were expected to do everything at once: cleanse, moisturize, smell pleasant, and even act antibacterial. In practice, this meant the presence of many chemical substances that were not always gentle on the skin. Sometimes, such wipes could even handle tough stains, like marker traces. And that’s when I started to wonder: if something removes such strong dirt, is it really suitable for delicate skin?

Water plays a crucial role

That’s why, at Mayola, I chose a completely different approach. The foundation of our wipes is pure water—the most natural ingredient and the one best tolerated by the skin. I understand how important water is in skincare, as it does not disrupt the skin’s natural protective barrier. This is particularly important to me in the case of newborns, whose skin is only just learning to function outside the mother’s body.

I am also aware that a newborn’s skin is covered with what is known as the acid mantle, with a pH of approximately 4.5–5.5. This slightly acidic layer has a protective function and helps shield the skin from external factors. I know that using products with an inappropriate pH can disrupt this balance, which is why it was so important to me that our product does not do that. Water—especially soft water rich in minerals such as magnesium and calcium—does not disturb the skin’s natural pH, which is why I consider it an ideal skincare ingredient.

Avena sativa – a little touch of magic in our wipes

I have also added common oat (Avena sativa) to our wipes. It is a plant I value highly (my academic background is in landscape architecture engineering, and I have a fondness for Latin plant names). Oats have well-known and proven soothing properties, which is why they are often used in cosmetics for allergic and sensitive skin. They have a calming effect, help reduce redness, and support skin regeneration, so including them in the formula was an obvious choice for me.

However, I added it in a very small amount. In our formulation, it also serves as a carrier for the preservative. And here I want to be honest—because I know that any product containing water must include a preservative to remain safe for use and resistant to bacterial growth. I do not hide this or rely on marketing shortcuts such as “trace amounts.” Transparency is important to me, which is why I clearly communicate the composition and the function of each ingredient.

made in Poland

I believe that a minimalist formula provides real benefits. The fewer the ingredients, the lower the risk of irritation or allergic reactions. This is especially important in daily care, when a product is used multiple times throughout the day.

It is also very important to me that we manufacture in Poland. This is a conscious decision, as I want to maintain control over quality, the production process, and what ultimately reaches users. Local production also means responsibility and support for the domestic economy.

I created Mayola wipes based on simplicity, knowledge, and experience. I chose water, the properties of oats, and full transparency of ingredients. I wanted them to be gentle, safe, and effective—products that I would confidently choose myself for the daily care of even the most demanding skin.
